Alas, here we are in the final month of 2020, December has arrived. A year of so much chaos, pain, struggles, pivotal moments, changes and outright tribulation for so many. Yet, at certain times a glimmer of light would shine and we would find ourselves able to celebrate some of those changes and chaos and then see the Hope we knew deep inside being fulfilled. As I picked up our youngest from 'grammy school' one evening, the sun was brightly shining in my face and the music on the radio started, as the piano began to play, Oh, Holy Night. My heart immediately reminisced to my cousin sitting at the piano; I can still see him as his entire body was engulfed into playing, striving to make every note perfect and then he opened up his angelic voice and these words bellowed out singing of this Glorious event. You felt like you were right there; with Mary awaiting the arrival of her miracle that night in Bethlehem. Needless to say, chills ran all over my body and tears streamed from my face as I rode in my car and I whispered, "Thank you, I feel Your presence."

Some of us have been blessed to become parents naturally, through adoption, or through guardianship. Of course, my mind took me back to the birth of each of my children. Thinking about what my body went through, how it changed and how it prepared to birth those sweet babies naturally. An event that as a young girl, I dreamt about, and shortly before being married, that dream was taken down a notch as I was told it would probably be difficult for me to conceive. God took care of that, but that is for another day.... I know how I felt on our kids birth day, but can you imagine how Mary and Joseph felt in their hearts knowing she was about to give birth to Our SAVIOR?....

Let's take a closer look and start from the top (of the song). You get to listen below.

O Holy night

'To be holy means to be dedicated or consecrated to God or a religious purpose; sacred. This night was special because it was set apart from any other night in the history of man.'

The stars are brightly shining It is the night of our dear Savior's birth

'The night was perfect, God had prepared a way, a single bright star, that was shining to lead the way for the Shepherds that had been told of the Savior's Birth.'

Long lay the world in sin and error pining

'We had waited and erred(sinned) against God and complained(Numbers 14:2) even as we witnessed His glory'

Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth

'As God's chosen people, God had promised a saviour and humankind was able to truly see how much we are worth(how much we are valued) to God.'

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices

'This world is most definitely weary, as individuals we are tired, exhausted and yet, we have hope!' For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn

'The world over feels a major change and takes joy in that change, and things are a-changing.'

Fall on your knees, oh, hear the angel voices

' Get in a posture where you can worship and listen to the angels.

Open your heart to feel His Presence'

O night divine

O night when Christ was born

'The divine night, more specifically the night our Saviour was born.

It was made divine because of His birth'.'

Truly He taught us to love one another

'He showed us what it really means to love someone.

It is a love that involves sacrifice.' This year we have relied on that love from Him

and others around.'

His law is love and His gospel is peace

'Before there was the law, but He brought forth the completion of the law. His gospel (or good story) is not hate, not anger, not war or conflict, but one of peace, love, reflection, compassion, and cooperation.' Oh how He would be disgraced by the things done in His name. Things not done in peace, but in hatred and anger. This year and prior years, can you think of anything? '

Chains shall He break, for His child is our brother

'The Bible refers to man as being bound by Sin, Sin is the 'chains' referred to in this verse. Jesus was born of woman and thus is our brother. It is through His sacrifice that we are released from Sin.'

And in His name all oppression shall cease

'This is one that we struggled with, with all that is going on in the world, and all of the suffering. The oppression this refers to is the oppression of sin, we shall be released from this oppression thanks to the sacrifice that He made for us.'

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we

'We rejoice in songs of gratitude and joyfulness. Such as this one, so thankful for the reminders.'

Let all within us praise His holy name

Christ is the Lord, the name forever praise we

'For thine is the glory now and forever'
